About this tree

This particular tree is a Herefordshire Champion Tree for its notable girth and height. Native to North East Turkey, Armenia and the western Caucasus. It is relatively small for an oak tree and has distinctive veined leaves not unlike a Sweet chestnut leaf, turning yellow in the autumn. This is a rare tree in cultivation in the UK and its status in the wild is threatened and now very rare indeed.
