About
About this tree

This particular Norway maple is one of Herefordshire's Champion Trees for its notable height. It is a lovely ornamental tree which has deep crimson to purple leaves during the spring and summer; these turn to oranges and browns during the autumn, making this a spectacular tree through most of the year. Flowers are small, yellow and tinted red in spring. Norway maple is native to a wide European range from southern Scandinavia to the Caucasus Mountains of southern Russia and Georgia. It is one of the few introduced species to the UK that can successfully invade and colonize woodland (its relative, Sycamore, is another). By comparison, in its native range, this tree is rarely a dominant species and instead occurs mostly as a scattered tree in the landscape.
